We're half way through January and I'm so excited for a new year! There is an expectancy for great things and new beginnings at this time of year and I love it. My husband is really into setting goals each year. I have never really joined in on this activity. However, this year he wore me down. ;) Most of my goals are pretty simple but they're dear to me. So readers...its your job to hold me accountable and help me stay on track. Lord knows I am not a very disciplined individual. Here goes:

1. Grow my prayer life

2. Hug my husband everyday

3. Speak life (constantly strive to encourage and build up)

4. Encourage 1 person each week

5. Teach Chase a bible verse each week

6. Travel!! (Especially Disneyland with Chase this year!)

7. Loose the last little bit of baby weight by April (ugh!)

8. Family dinners once a month with the Russell's/Bennett's

9. Blog more (it something I love!)

10. Dance!

Christmas 2011

This year we celebrated Christmas 3 weekends in a row. We started with the Stoddart clan (my Mom's side) on December 11th. The following weekend we packed up our boys and stayed overnight at my Mom's to celebrate with my immediate family. My Mom & Dad always do an incredible job of making us feel special!

Santa even came early to visit at the Russell house!

We did all our Russell traditions a week early and it was wonderful! The boys were SO spoiled. Thank you Mom & Dad for everything this year; it was awesome!

On December 24th Chad & I woke up early and opened presents with our boys. Then we quickly showered and packed up the car to head to the island for Christmas with the Wakeham's.

It was a very emotional Christmas on the island. Chad's incredible Grandpa passed away this year...which left a massive void this Christmas. The 1st Christmas is never easy. In my old age I've become some what of a mush. I kept breaking down as I watched the heart break in the families eyes. It kept taking me back to my first Christmas without my Papa. Chad's Uncle Hugh organized a beautiful memorial for Gramps on Christmas Day. We all wrote letters, thoughts and prayers to Gramps on paper lanterns and then sent them off to heaven. It was a touching and beautiful sight to watch!

On boxing day, Chad's cousin in Edmonton gave birth to twins! Levi Raymond & Esther Lynne were born at 2 pounds 9 ounces each. They were 3 months premature. Of course I burst into tears when I found out Brooke was at the hospital. When you become a Mommy news like this is never easy to hear. Brooke and the babies are doing well. We're just praying protection over them and that they continue to gain weight. They're absolutely gorgeous and I can't wait to snuggle with them!

Lots of emotion this Christmas. However, I'm so thankful we could all be together. The support of family is something I truly cherish! I love being apart of the Wakeham/Bennett clan! We always have so much fun together and make great memories.

Overall it was a wonderful Christmas! So hard to believe it's all over already.

California girls

This Christmas was an extra special one for us! Our dear friends from California were up visiting their family. Tim & Sarah have been friends forever! Chad & I grew up with Tim and he married fabulous Sarah when he was going to school in California. Last September they were able to adopt 2 beautiful sisters Paisley & Violet and before the ink was dry on the adoption papers they found out they were expecting! 9 months later sweet Willow joined their family. This was my first time meeting the girls. It was SO surreal. I got emotional as Tim came in carrying his beautiful daughters in his arms. Tim has always been like a brother to me and it was honestly breath taking to see the man/husband/father he has become. I'm so proud of him & Sarah! They're doing an amazing job and have 3 outstanding little ladies!

My big boy

I still can't believe he's 3! Everything about raising Chase is an adventure. He's my first which makes him special (sorry Cy). He is the kind of little boy that lights up a room as soon as he enters it. He warmly greets EVERYONE and wants to know how your day was or excitedly hugs you. He'll talk your ear off or just randomly start singing his ABC's for you. He loves to look cool and is actually aware of what he's wearing. However, doing his hair is a wrestling match each morning. He wants to be just like Daddy and will hoot & holler at the TV when the Canucks get a goal. He'll also snuggle in close to me each night as I read him books and then ask me to sing the "peace" song as I tickle his back. He is determined and passionate but also concerned and genuine. Everyday he takes a little bit more of my heart!

I did a little pajama party for Chase's little buddies. They were all so cute! Chase had a blast!!

We feel so blessed to go up to Tulameen every fall! The girls sit around the fire and chat or read. While the guys play and explore. It's fabulous! Can't wait for next year.

We were long overdue for a visit to see our friends the Fisher's. We love going over to the island. Something happens when you step off that ferry. Relaxation takes over and you jump into the slow pace of island life. It's wonderful!! Sean & Jenn have AMAZING kids! They're so well behaved and just down right lovable. Jenn, you truly are an outstanding Mommy! I admire you so much!! Thank you for spoiling us and cooking all those yummy meals. We had so much fun. Love you guys!

Remember when you were a kid and you went to Disneyland for the first time? Pretty magical! I just went a few years ago and it was still the happiest place on earth. 1 sunny fall day we stumbled upon a little Disney in our very own city. If you have a little boy chances are he's in love with Lightning McQueen. Lighting is the boy version of Cinderella. Every little girl goes to Disneyland and wants to be a princess. Every little boy goes there and wants to go fast like the rookie race car Lightning McQueen. The cars characters are everywhere in our house. Chase's favorite song is life is a highway and I sit on the floor once a day at least and play Flo's V8 cafe with him. ;) Seeing the 'real' cars characters was incredible for Chase. Let me tell you as a Mommy it was pretty magical too.

We had the privilege of hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year at our house for Chad's family. I even made my first turkey. There are a few things I'd change next time I make one but for the most part a success.

The highlight of the evening was when Ty apologized to my MIL for forgetting to give her a birthday gift in April. He said he had just found the present recently. Bonni opened it and found baby Bennett's 1st picture wrapped in a beautiful Grandma frame!!! It was the perfect ending to a great day! I'm so thrilled to become an Auntie for the first time. I'm secretly hoping it's a little girl so I can spoil her with all the cute girly things. :)

This year I found myself feeling SO grateful for such amazing family! My Papa always taught me the value of family but I guess more than ever I understand it. My husband, who makes me laugh, listens to me chatter on and on and reassures me all the time. My handsome little guys, who make me laugh until my side hurts, challenge me to grow and learn how to be a better Mommy and just fill my life with purpose. My Mom, who everyday loves me unconditionally, pours her wisdom on me and covers me with prayer & love. My brother, who dreams big with me, loves to celebrate and enjoy life and who has taught me how to love everyone for who they are. I have a large family so this could go on and on. I simply want you all to know that for 2011 I'm so blessed and thankful to have such a great family! xo

Cyrus' 1st hair cut!

Yes, my son is 4 months old getting his first hair cut and yes I let it grow too long. You know its long when the pizza guy comes to your door and goes on & on about how lovely your daughter is. I didn't have the heart to tell him it was a boy. I just quickly closed the door and called my Mom to hurry over to play Nannie hair dresser. Mom gave Chase his 1st hair cut so of course she'd do Cy's as well. He looks so handsome now!

We managed to get a family day and decided to head to the zoo. Chad had never been to our local zoo and Chase loves it. It was so nice to push the stroller and watch Chad & Chase walk hand in hand around the zoo learning about all the different animals. We had a fantastic day!

Friday is the 1st official day of fall and I'm spending a good chunk of my time these days shopping on line and getting so jazzed about all the cute trends this year! When I worked at kensie girl this was always my favorite season to merchandise and sell! I get so excited for chunky sweaters, delicious scarves and fabulous boots! Now that I'm a Mommy I'm always checking out websites for the wee ones too. So here are a few things I'm obsessed with these days for me and my boys. ;)

Sam Edelman's animal print slipper loafers I've been in love with for the past couple months! Their Fall 2011 shoe collection is enough to make me want to go back to work just to buy shoes. :) Love, love them all!

This Michael Kors Runway watch is on my Christmas list already!

I've used Eminence facial products for the last 8 years. The blueberry soy wash is the most refreshing face wash I've ever used. I love the sweet smell and how soft my skin feels before bed every night.
Ok, Makie clothiers has to be the cutest place to buy kids clothes! I just wish I could afford it. Haha

Sunshine Coast

As summer is coming to an end we're finally enjoying some fabulous weather! One of my dear friends lives in Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast. I've been wanting to go and visit her for awhile now and it all came together this week. The boys and I woke up early and caught the ferry from Horseshoe Bay. We met up with my other fabulous friend Rebecca and her son Luke and headed over for a play date on the Coast!

Our dear friends Jamie & Danny welcomed another daughter into their family last Friday! Stella Marie Moniz is the sweetest little thing. As I was enjoying my snuggles with her I found myself already missing the newborn stage. I feel so blessed to have such AMAZING Mommy friends!!! I met Jamie through Chad. They worked together for years and we both got pregnant around the same time with Chase and Emma. Jamie has a warm and inviting personality. You just can't help but want to be around her! I love this family and can't wait to watch Cy & Stella grow up...never know what the future holds for these two! :)

Birthday at the Beach!

Mom treated the boys and I to fish and chips on my actual birthday. It was such a fabulous lunch! Chase discovered all the little crabs under the rocks, made new friends and enjoyed his favorite lunch. For me it was just surreal to sit there...30. So thankful for my wonderful Mom! She makes everything special and truly knows how to celebrate people. I love spending time with her and learning from her. She is the greatest Mom and an incredible role model for me!!! A new decade

I officially turned 30 on August 11th of this year! It was strange for me turning 30 because I remember my Mom's 30th party (I was 7 ;) and when you're a kid you naturally think your parents are so old. Well...here I am...30...and I'm ok with that. My 20's were amazing! So I say bring on the next decade. My husband & Dad got together to plan my party. I was overwhelmed and felt so spoiled!!! Every detail was taken care of. It was a night I'll never forget!

We're in the process of setting up Cyrus' nursery. We've been power cleaning his room. It used to be our guest/junk room. So needless to say there was a lot of work to do. As I was cleaning I came across these words of wisdom from my dear friend in California. It was such a great reminder for me of the kind of mommy I want to be! I hope it encourages you too.

If I live in a house of spotless beauty with everything in its place, but have not love, I am a housekeeper - not a homemaker. If I have time for waxing, polishing and decorative achievements, but have not love, my children learn cleanliness - not Godliness. Love leaves the dust in search of a child's laugh.

It's been an exceptionally cold summer this year. So any glimpse of sun we've rushed outside. I love going to White Rock beach in the summer and relaxing on a blanket while we eat fish & chips. It was a bit chilly but we still made it happen. It was such fun family time!

Remembering Gramps

Last Tuesday morning I woke up and found Chad still at home. His eye were wet as he told me his Gramps had passed away. Immediately I broke down with him. Gramps was an incredible man that had over come many obstacles in his life. He suffered a stroke last fall but managed to defy the odds again and survive another 7 months. On June 14th he suffered another stroke while sleeping. Thankfully we went peacefully. Gramps touched my life in many ways. He was fun loving, genuine, sincere and loved everyone just the way they were. I'm so thankful for the heritage and values he passed on to my husband!

Chad's cousins from Edmonton came on the weekend and we all headed over to Sidney for the Memorial. It was an amazing tribute! I found myself missing my own Papa and crying more than Chad at times. It's never easy to say goodbye but the important thing is to keep their memories alive and cherish the times we did have together. Love you Gramps!

Date night

I'm so behind with blogging so I'm going to do my best to catch up over the next few days. Life with a newborn & toddler is definitely busy! I'm so thankful for this season though. Chad & I managed to get out for a date when Cy turned 1 month. It was so fun to hold hands and just be together. My husband always goes above and beyond to make me feel special and this was no exception. He came home with 3 purple roses (in our house 3 of anything means "I love you"). He had also ordered my Cyrus charm for my bracelet. If you haven't heard of Lucy Ann jewelry check out the website. The charms and jewelry are so adorable. On the charm they put your child's name and their birthday.

Of course being alone with my husband made me so thankful for the awesome partner I have to raise these little boys. Chaddy always brings a smile to my face and is such a gift to me. Loved date night and I can't wait for the next one!

I signed Chase up for a 6 week music class with the lovely Rachael Ballard. The class was such a hit. All the kids loved learning about a new instrument each week, music notes, tempos and lots of other fun things. It was a fun date with my Chase each week before little Cyrus arrived! Cyrus Gordon

Just over 2 weeks ago Chad, Chase & I welcomed Cyrus Gordon into our family! Cyrus was born on the 14th just like his big brother. I was 5 days overdue and feeling really good. I thought for sure I'd be the first woman pregnant for a full year. Then that morning I woke up with some light cramping. It got a bit stronger in the morning and then stopped all together. So I drank some raspberry leaf tea and took a nap after lunch. At 3:00 I woke up to strong contractions. Chad began timing them and they were 5 minutes apart consistently. Uncle Trent rushed over to watch Chase and by 5:00 we were waiting to be assessed at the hospital. My contractions were still 5 minutes apart but I was 7 cm dilated. :) They called my doctor and we set up camp in our room. Once Dr. Hansen arrived he checked me again and I was 9 cm...ugh my hopes and dreams of having an epidural went out the window real fast. He broke my water and at 6:00 I was pushing. By 6:19 Chad was tearfully announcing we had another boy! A lump caught in my throat when he spoke those words. For years I have prayed for little boys. Growing up I had an amazing relationship with my brother. I guess I've always been more of a tomboy at heart and related to the men in my life the most. Having Chase & Cyrus just feels right to me. God truly has given me the desires of my heart! I feel so blessed to have such an amazing husband and 2 beautiful boys! I can't wait to see what God has in store for our little family.

The tulip festival 2011

Last year we started a new tradition at Easter of going to the tulip festival. Tulips are my favorite flower so I really look forward to this event. The weather was amazing and the tulips were picture perfect! We had a wonderful day.

This year at the Tulip festival I was thinking a lot about baby #2 and how in a few short weeks our lives will be changing again. It was also an amazing reminder for me how thankful I am for my family! We're not perfect but we love being together and living life to its fullest. Thankful for all Jesus did for me at this time of year and for the many blessings in my life. I hope you all had a wonderful Easter!

A few weeks ago we had the honor of witnessing my cousin Stephanie get married to her high school sweetheart Andrew! The wedding had a very soft & regal feel to it. Every detail was taken care of and the results were breathtaking. Stephanie was absolutely radiant! With Chase being the ring bearer and Chad a groomsman I wasn't able to take many pictures. Life lately

I know I haven't been very good at blogging lately. Spring has sprung in our house and I'm in the nesting stage of my pregnancy. So I've been using all my energy to check things off my to do list. I love this time of year for getting projects done. Let's face it as soon as the hot weather hits I'll be at the pool! ;)

We have a few home projects on the go right now. I decided to renovate Chase's bathroom. Next weekend we're hoping to finish the project so I'll post pictures then. A friend of ours is also working with Chad to finish our storage space and garage. I'm SO excited for more shelving space! We're also still working on the kids playroom. This project is not moving as quickly as I'd like it to but 1 thing at a time. ;)

3 weeks ago Chad & I began the adventure of potty training Chase. I had read the 3 day method and a lot of it made sense. So I decided to try it. I was thrilled with how well Chase responded to it all. If you haven't heard about this method and you're starting potty training I would highly recommend it! On the first day we had 2 accidents but by the evening he was starting to understand. By day 2 peeing in the potty was a breeze. It took us until day 4 to understand how to go #2 in the potty but we got there. These past few weeks have been wonderful and Chase loves his Thomas the train underwear! ;)

My cousin is getting married this weekend and Chad & Chase are both in the wedding party! We're excited to spend time with family and enjoy another wedding. I'll for sure blog about the wedding! :)

Baby #2 is 6 weeks away! I have a lot to do before then. I tend to procrastinate when it comes to baby stuff. I have started researching double strollers and I did wash some newborn clothes. That's it though. The baby room I'll work on after the baby is born. Since we don't know what we're having I'd rather wait to decorate. I did Chase's room neutral. This time I'd rather have it more specific to a boy or girl. I had my 8 months check up this week and baby is doing great! My doctor informed me that it's a good size baby as he was examining me. Eek! So I'll just be drinking water and cutting out the sweets for the next couple weeks. No more milkshakes and donuts for this Mama! ;)

I'm excited to meet this little one! Also overwhelmed with lots of emotions about having 2 kids and keeping life balanced. I'm just savoring my one on one time with Chase and trying to do some special things with just him. I love my little man so much.

The Grand re-opening!

For the past month I've been helping Chad plan out the details for his Surrey store re-opening. It's been fantastic working again and doing something I love...planning a party. ;) I'm definitely a career girl at heart. Don't get me wrong, I adore being a Mommy. I just feel really fulfilled having a mixture of both. I'm excited to work on more projects with Apex in the future. I took pictures before the event started. As you can see, the guests arrived early. About 15 minutes after I took this picture there was a line up into the parking lot. It was awesome!

Stephanie's Shower!

My cousin Stephanie is getting married at the end of this month. So we had a beautiful family shower at my Mom's. Everything was done in yellow and black the colors of the wedding. My Mom & Auntie Kathy did an amazing job of hosting! The food was so yummy!! As I went through all my pictures from the shower, I loved seeing the pure joy all over Steph's face. It's been a hectic year for her with finishing University, beginning her career, planning a wedding and watching her Mom battle breast cancer. Through it all Steph wears her beautiful smile! I love it and truly admire that about her.

My favorite holiday!

Valentine's day is my favorite holiday! I have so many awesome memories with my Chaddy. From high school to now he always has a way of making me feel SO special. This year was our grandest Valentine's ever!!! He TOTALLY out did himself! We got to spend a night at the Pan Pacific hotel downtown.
After we checked in & freshened up we headed to my favorite restaurant, Boneta's. It was so nice to laugh about past memories and talk about our plans for the future...grown up conversations how I love them. The next morning we had a couples massage and then went shopping and out for lunch. It was awesome! It felt like when we were dating.

I honestly know how blessed I am to have such a romantic, thoughtful husband! He doesn't miss a beat and he's always putting my needs first. It was for sure 1 of the things that I fell in love with when we first started dating.

Our very 1st Valentine was back in high school. I was super excited and remember my brain drifting off to la la land all day in class. Chad picked me up in the family car. :) He wore a red dress shirt and khaki's (pretty much a Gap poster boy back in the day) and I puffed up my massive Dharma hair, put a dress on and we headed into the city. I suffered with some interesting food allergies when I was in high school. Garlic was one of the worst things I could eat. When I did have garlic, either my lips would puff up or I'd break out in hives. Super attractive time in my life. ;)

Chad had made reservations at an adorable little Italian restaurant in Kitts. The lighting was low, the candles were drippy and I was head over heals! Everything about the atmosphere was so romantic. We got our menu's and panic started to settle in. My moment of bliss was over when I realized everything on the menu had garlic. I thought at first about just ordering something. Who cares if I have an allergic reaction? The only problem was Chad & I hadn't kissed yet and I'm pretty sure balloon lips and a hives covered girlfriend doesn't equal a good first kiss for any guy.

I remember Chad interrupting my state of panic asking if I wanted to order an appetizer. Then it dawned on me, maybe the kitchen could make me up something without garlic. A special dish. Sure, that would work. I couldn't be the only person with a garlic allergy in Vancouver. They probably saw this all the time. So I decided what I wanted and returned to my blissful state. When the server came to take our orders I told him what I wanted and that I needed that without garlic as I was highly allergic. The server kindly informed me that everything on their menu had garlic and there was no way he could guarantee a garlic free meal. Oh boy! Of course my husband, apologized and grabbed my hand and escorted me out of the restaurant. We headed to Earls for wings. I never forgot that moment though. I knew that Chad would always take care of me in this way by his simple and kind gesture.

I love my husband so much! This year and every year to come I will make sure he knows I'm better because he's in my life. Love you babe!!!

You know you're Canadian when you sign your 2 year old up for floor hockey! Chase plays hockey all throughout our house so I thought it would be good to get him out in the community and play with other little boys his age. He was so cute running around.

Chad & I have had the massive privilege of witnessing our friends and family get married over the years! Every wedding has something that stays with us. A piece of the bride & grooms special day that will stick with us throughout the years. After we left Devan & Amy's wedding both Chad & I said it was an honor/privilege to be a guest at this wedding. I felt like I was watching a very sacred moment between a family through a frosted window. Here's why...

Devan & Amy met the Spring of 2010. They had known each other casually in high school but lost track of each other over the years. Their lives had taken them down separate journeys. Each path strengthening them and making them both stronger. When their paths crossed again last Spring a spark was awoken in them both. Then, when Amy introduced Devan to her daughter Emma a family was born. Devan, fell in love with this little girl and as they dated he became determined to marry Amy so that Emma would only ever know him as Daddy! *yep, I'm crying* Shortly after Emma turned 1 Devan and Amy got married!!! Here are some highlights from their day.

Devan gave Emma a necklace as a symbol to her of his love. Not a dry eye in the room!

I fell in love with Amy as soon as I met her! She's an amazing woman!!!

The Hull's are always a TON of fun but when Kris got his wife's Nana out there dancing I was loving every second of it. ;)

The 2nd week in January was filled with sugar and spice & everything nice for us! Two of my very dear friends welcomed baby girls into their families. I love this stage of life! From the announcement of pregnancy to the phone call that they're in labour...it's all so exciting!!!

Vince & Kristy welcomed beautiful Sierra Gonsalves on January 11th. Kristy has always been my friend who loved pink and anything that sparkles. ;) So I was over joyed to hear she was having a little girl!

4 days later the incredible Lundgren family welcomed Leksya! How beautiful does Melissa look just hours later? Melissa truly is my hero! After everything she's been through these last couple of weeks she's still thanking God for His faithfulness. She's an incredible woman that I admire greatly!

Chase thought Leks was really cute! I guess it's another option for him if things didn't workout with her big sister. ;) Love you Livy!!!

Thank you for letting us celebrate this milestone with you! We're so excited to be apart of your lives and to raise our wee ones together. We pray blessing & wisdom over you as you raise these sweet girls!

Some of the highlights from Christmas 2010! This year we celebrated with my side of the family. Chad, Chase & I started the day off waking up early to open gifts as a wee family. We had to wake Chase up so he was a bit groggy while opening gifts at our house. He came alive at my Mom's. It was a special morning for me enjoying our time with Chase. Next year there will be 2 kids and I'm sure a lot more chaos! ;)

We found out the beginning of December that my Aunt had breast cancer. It was a massive shock to everyone. Her surgery was scheduled for Dec. 24th in the morning. She came on Christmas day for dinner and left shortly after as she was in a great deal of pain. It wasn't an easy Christmas for Auntie Miriam or the rest of the family. Her journey continues as she's scheduled for another surgery this month. We're praying for a complete healing in her body and lives to be touched from her testimony!

This Christmas was very reflective for me. I was surrounded with the simple message that life is precious. As the baby kicked and wiggled inside of me I was bursting with joy. Bringing another baby into this world is such a thrill for me! However, watching my Aunt suffer in pain was the harsh reality. I need to savour each moment, the good and the bad. I know this is to easily said but far often never done. I want to speak joyfully and encourage the beautiful people in my life. As I said before, life is precious! We only get a short time here...might as well do our best!

My husband has worked for Apex Wireless ever since he moved home from New York. He started at the bottom and over the years he's worked his way up and is now managing 2 stores. I've LOVED every second of watching him grow as a manager. He is excellent at cultivating a "team" and diligent at growing his business. My amazing husband works long hours. However, the moment he walks through the door it's all about Chase and me. ;) I'm so proud of him and I'm believing with him for even greater things next year!

I know I'm going to say it every year but I can't believe Chase is 2! He truly makes everyday for Chad & I more special. We're constantly laughing at his vocabulary or when he copies what we say. Then there are the tender moments when he asks "Whatcha doing Mommy?" and climbs into my lap for a snuggle. I am thankful everyday for you Chase!

Since December is always a busy month for us we tried to make it as simple as possible this year. Tyler's birthday is the day before Chase's. So we had a wonderful family lunch to celebrate them both. Chase was on overload this year with all his presents. So basically, you won't see him looking into the camera for any of these pictures. ;) We had a great day though. Thanks to our AMAZING family for blessing our little man! He loves you all so much.

Then on Chase's actual birthday all his friends came over for a penguin themed party. We have such wonderful friends and I'm so grateful that Chase gets to grow up with such a fantastic group of kids. They're to much fun!!!

We had the massive privilege of celebrating my Father in law's 80th birthday! There are many things that I love and respect about my in laws. My father in law has treated me like one of his own from the moment I said "I do." He has learnt a lot over his years but the thing that is most important to him is his family. Something I truly admire and work hard to establish in our home. Dad B has a warmth that is truly inviting and a tenderness I love. I'm so thankful to have him in my life! When Chad & I got married we decided we wanted to cut down a real tree every year for Christmas. This was our little family tradition. Now that Chase is apart of it makes it even more exciting! My heart was melting this year as we headed out to get our trees with our brothers. We all laughed and dreamt of the day we could do this with all our kids. Even though kids are still in the future for them, it brings a smile to my face thinking of what a special time that will be.

We were so spoiled this year and got the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving and Charlie's birthday up in Tulameen. We all napped, roasted marshmallows and enjoyed the amazing beauty that surrounded us. It truly was a piece of heaven on earth! I was so thankful for the time away. Life has been so nuts lately! Our weekend in Tulameen really was refreshing.

This past Thanksgiving weekend we went to Apple Barn farms. Our little family was excited to pick out a pumpkin with some of our dear friends and their kiddos. Apple Barn is the perfect place for little kids. Chase had so much fun!

Creamy Sweet Potato & Butternut Squash Soup

I just made this last night for dinner and it was a hit with Chase & Chad. Plus, it's a crock pot recipe. YEAH! I made roasted chicken sandwiches with smoked gouda, apples and lettuce to go with the soup. It went together really well!

Creamy Sweet Potato & Butternut Squash Soup

Ingredients:

1 pound sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes (about 3 cups total)

1 pound butternut squash, peeled and diced into 1-inch cubes (about 3 1/2 cups total)

***you can buy the butternut squash washed and cut at Costco. It's much faster that way***

1/2 cup chopped onion

14 ounces chicken broth

1/2 cup butter, diced

1 can coconut milk

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper, or more to taste

1 1/2 teaspoons salt, or to taste

3 to 4 green onions, green and white parts finely chopped (optional)

Prepare:

1. Combine sweet potatoes, squash, onion, half of chicken broth and butter in crock-pot slow cooker. Cover and cook on HIGH for 4 hours or until vegetables are tender.

2. Puree until smooth in blender. 1 cup at a time. Once well blended return to slow cooker. Stir in remaining broth, coconut milk, ground cumin, ground red pepper and salt. To serve, sprinkle with chopped green onions, if desired.

My awesome husband turned 30 on September 25th. The whole month of September was a celebration for him! I hope it was everything he imagined it would be. We spent the September long weekend celebrating Chad, Angela & Brooke's birthday up in Kelowna. All of us cousins love being together and we were thankful to make more memories! 5 days after we got home from Kelowna we were off to Kauai for a week with my family and the Carlson's.

When I sat down with Chad to discuss ideas for his party he asked for 3 things; good food, great friends and golf. So that's exactly what we did! We had all of his friends over on the Friday before his birthday for food and fellowship. The on his actual birthday he went golfing with the boys. He finished off the weekend heading down to Seattle for a Seahawks game with his friends. He was exhausted on Sunday night but I know he had a blast! Here's some pictures from his party...

Kauai - Life's a beach!

Our wee family had the massive pleasure of joining the Carlson clan for a week in Kauai! Not only are the Carlson's exciting and energetic people to be around but they also have fantastic taste! ;) We love them all so much and truly enjoyed our holiday.

One day a Monk seal spent the entire day relaxing on our beach. This was one of the most amazing things I've ever witnessed. My son was over the moon!

I just spent a fabulous week with one of my dearest friends, Sarah. Sarah and her family live in California. So I truly savour the time we get together. Even before I met Sarah everyone always told me about how incredible she was. They encouraged me to get to know her as we were a lot a like. Well, it just so happens that my adopted younger brother & close friend Tim married her! We're both true blonds, nuts about fashion, understand guy humor and often add a joke of our own, laugh as much as we can and know all of our blessings in life are from Jesus!!

This past week was spent encouraging each other and talking about our kids. Sarah is such a blessing to me. I can't imagine life without her!

When I found out that Sarah was coming I wanted to make sure she felt spoiled and got to relax. All you Mommies out there know how hard life can be when you're being pulled in so many directions. I wanted Sarah to just have time to refresh.

One of the highlights from our week was going to see 'Singing in the Rain' @ Theater Under the Stars. The show was amazing! It was so wonderful to be with my sisters and Mom's. Let's face it...it's just nice to dress up and have a night with the girls!

We ate dinner at Crime Lab in honor of Officer Tim Downes. ;)

We try to get up to Kelowna a couple of times each summer to visit our Uncle and to enjoy the Okanagan! We always make amazing memories and love spending time on the lake. Our gift to Chris Cooke this year was a game of golf and a weekend up in K-town! A 30th birthday gift that Chad, Trent & Brent got to enjoy too. ;)

This year I got to celebrate my birthday with my Mom, Dad, Trent & Brittany and Chad & I. It was such a treat for me and if you know our families story a small miracle. July 30th marks the 5th wedding anniversary for my wife and I. I've officially hacked into her Blog (all too easy as she uses the same password for everything) to write a note to my best friend, my wife...Trisha!

Trisha and I started dating (for the second time) back in 2003. I remember giving her Lonestar tickets to the Lynden Fair for her 22nd Birthday, crossing my fingers that she got the message and would decide to take me. I was so nervous, sweaty, and anxious I barely ate. I wanted to get this date over with and have "the talk". You see, I knew she was the one and at that time I had already decided that I was going to make this girl my bride, but she had no idea. The date was one of the first steps in the right direction, but I couldn't just lay it all out there right away. Most of what I wanted to say before we started dating again I had to write down on paper before I exploded. What landed on the sheet of paper was poetry and every single romantic holiday since, she's kindly requested poems as her little gift. The poem that I wrote about a week before we started dating I titled, "Your Best One". It was a poem about Trisha. So, 5 years later I thought it would be appropriate to open up the dusty old book and share this poem with my Wifey once again...

I'm so glad that God blessed me with his "best one" for me. I couldn't have asked for a better partner in life. My wife is truly amazing. She brings so much happiness. I often think of my day-to-day and what it is I'm here for and what my responsibilities are in this life. In the process, it's so easy to get caught up in life, work, and the busyness of this world that we so often bring upon ourselves. But as soon as I arrive home from a long day of work I see my wife, my son, my world and the worries and stresses of the day completely disappear.

Babe, on our 5th anniversary I look back at the last 5 years and wouldn't change a thing. I love the best friend that you've always been. I love the gracious, forgiving, accepting, patient, and loving wife that you are to me. Mostly, I love the mother that you have become and the partnering parent that you've been with me. I'm sure many kids have been through the "I love Elmo" stage. Chase is 100% in love with Elmo these days. So when I heard that Sesame Street live was coming to town I jumped at the chance to get tickets.

Since I'm home with Chase I have the privilege of taking him on many dates. Chad had mentioned a few times he wished he could take Chase to something. So Sesame Street live was a Daddy & Chase date. I was able to go get my hair highlighted so it was a win, win! ;)

According to Chad, Chase loved every second of the show. He sat on Daddy's lap naming all the characters and dancing to the music. So cute! So thankful that my husband takes the time to have these special moments with his son. Here are a few pics from the show!

My MIL treats all the girls in the Bennett family to the Life Women's Conference each year. It's always a highlight for me. This year its safe to say I was rocked to the core. Lisa Bevere was one of the guest speakers. As I sat in my seat listening to her challenge the women, I was constantly moved to tears or deeply inspired. I connected with her on so many levels. I hope to be half as cool as she is when I'm a G-Momma!

I've been reading her book 'Out of Control and loving it!' It's awesome! I've been so inspired by this book. I would encourage everyone to pick up a copy of it. It's a great summer read!

On June 19th 2010 Tyler Bennett patiently waited at the front of a quiet church for his bride. The music crescendo and the audience arose. Tyler shifted nervously. Finally the doors swung open and there she was. Stacie was radiant! She was smiling from ear to ear. Gentle tears fell down Ty's cheeks as God's promises were brought to life in that moment!

As a bridesmaid and a close observer of the day, my heart jumped for joy as I watched Tyler. Tyler is my brother in law but he was first a very dear friend/older brother. 13 years ago I met Tyler Bennett. He was outgoing, carefree and brought dozens of handsome boys (including my husband) into my house. It didn't matter if Ty and I were planning a children's event for CLA or cruising White Rock I was always guaranteed a good time with him!! As the years passed one by one our friends got married. Even though this was hard for Ty; he was patient. He knew his Mom, PP, Chad & I and many, many others were praying for his bride. He never complained just carried on.

It has been amazing for me watching Tyler fall in love with Stacie! I know he has all the tools to be an amazing husband and father one day. So, Tyler and Stacie my prayer for you is to always seek Jesus for direction! You've probably heard this a lot. Just know that life and relationships get really hard. However, the moment you take it to Jesus, everything gets a lot simpler. Have a lot of fun together in every area of your marriage. Never stop trying new things or just being silly together. Know that Chad & I are always here for you! We love you so much and are grateful we're family.

The time honored tradition know as the stagette, bachelorette party or hen party. For most of us it brings up great memories of our own wedding. All the laughter and fun we shared with our team of excited bridesmaids and friends. We celebrated my sister in law to be last night!

We started off with a surprise lingerie shower at my house. This was definitely memorable thanks to our 2 surprise guests. Oh gosh! From there Stacie and some of her bridesmaids all headed out for pedicures. Then it was back to my house to get ready to go downtown.

Now that I'm a stay at home mom I had spent the night before preparing for the lingerie shower. I stayed up baking and cleaning til 1 AM to make sure everything was perfect. I hadn't thought for a moment what I'd wear to the stagette. As I walked into my closet yesterday a slight panic settled over me. A quick glance over my shoulder confirmed that all my sister in laws looked hot...I mean HOT! OK don't panic Trisha, after all you're on day 3 of Jillian Michael's Shred. You're not totally a desperate housewife you can still roll with these girls. I quickly grabbed my 4 inch heels and assembled my outfit. Confirming nods from the sisters tell me my outfit is ok. Phewf!

It was such a beautiful night and as we cruised into the city I knew it was going to be a great night! The fabulous Angela was the event planner for the city fun. We all hoped into cabs and headed over to a very artistic Caribbean restaurant. The food was delicious and we were all having a great time! Stacie looked beautiful as always. From there we headed to Honey's for some dancing. That's when the panic returned. Don't get me wrong I LOVE to dance! Secretly I feel like a pea size Beyonce lives inside of me. However, I have a child, I don't go out dancing. I'll work it at the occasional wedding or maybe by myself in my car. The panic quickly turns to full blown fear when I remember "Oh crap, I'm wearing 4 inch heels." Thankfully, the DJ was AMAZING! It was like he took my ipod and went through my play list. The pea size Beyonce inside me sprung to action and I was dancing! The dancing turned to glowing which then turned to full on sweating. It wasn't pretty but man was it fun!!!

Every single one of the girls there had big smiles on their faces and we truly celebrated with Stacie. From there we headed to Earls for some yummy treats and then walked back to my in laws house for a slumber party.

When I woke up this morning after my solid 4 hours of sleep, I glanced at myself in the mirror and wondered if hemorrhoid cream really did shrink bags? That was one tired mommy starring back at me. :) Even now, as the clock on the computer reads 8:17 I'm seriously hoping in 15 minutes I'll be tucked in bed.

It was a fabulous night! I'm so excited for their wedding. 6 more days!!! YEAH!

Mother's Day

Mother's day why can't you be once a month? It's just such a wonderful day and I love what we're celebrating. Probably because now that I have my own baby I appreciate my Mom, Mother in law, Nana, Aunts and everyone else who's a Mommy out there so much more. I understand your exhaustion, frustration, never ending joy and fear. Basically I understand your hearts! It's so wonderful to get together with my family and Chad's family and just honor our Mothers.

We celebrated my MIL at Ang's house down in Kits. Ang made the most amazing brunch!! It was so relaxing sitting in the garden talking about life and just enjoying each other. When our tummies were all full we decided to take a walk down to the beach. Chase played and explored while we all sat in the sun (got to work on that tan...summer is just around the corner) and listened intently to Ang's adventures in the city and all Tyler & Stacie's wedding plans. The afternoon ended with ice cream. The perfect ending to our time together.

Then we packed up Chase and headed to my Mom's house for dinner! The house was filled with laughter and conversation the minute we walked through the door. My Mom's side of the family is all very outgoing and fun. Mom made an incredible salmon dinner and my Nana made her famous cheesecake! Why is it that I eat my way through EVERY holiday? The Canucks game was on but they won so all was well in the world. :) My Nana had commented about a month ago how she wanted to go to see Michael Buble in concert but his tickets were sold out. The following week I heard on the radio they had added another day. I quickly jumped on the chance to get her tickets. Watching her open the tickets was the highlight of the day! She screamed with delight and was so shocked. Every so often you find that perfect gift and the reaction is the best part. Once again, I enjoyed my day! So thankful to be a mommy to my amazing son. He brings me joy everyday!

Chad was away in Arizona last week for 4 days with work. It was a busy couple of days for Chase and I but I wouldn't have it any other way. Chase & I went and saw a movie. The next day we had the wedding shower. Then on the Friday morning we were up early to go to the zoo! The weather was so beautiful and the company perfect. All the kids were having so much fun together. I'm truly blessed to have such wonderful friends.

Little man is working on his last 2 eye teeth. It's a bit tough to take a picture without his fingers in his mouth these days. Oh well, at least he's happy!

Angela & I decided to do a Mexican themed shower for Tyler & Stacie. It was such a thrill to finally host a wedding shower for Tyler! Chase & I are home from a wonderful 4 days in Palm Desert! The trip came together quickly and Sunday morning at 5am we were on the road to the airport. The beauty of Palm Desert is it's a quick flight and you're in the beautiful sunshine. I love it! I've grown up going to the desert and it's a pretty incredible feeling taking Chase there now.
Our first day was spent by the pool. Chase is at such a great age. I loved watching him splash, jump and squeal in the water. Mom, Nana, Brittany, Chase and I headed off to Cheesecake factory for dinner. Since we were up so early we went home pretty quick and just relaxed.
Monday was filled with tanning and swimming again. Such leisurely days filled with laughter and fun! I wanted to take Chase to the Marriott for the boat ride and to see all the birds. My son is pretty amazed by birds these days. I love that little boat ride at the Marriott and yes it totally makes me think of the saved by the bell episode every time. Chase was so adorable on the boat in his bright orange life jacket. After our wee adventure we headed to Tommy Bahama's for dinner. All I have to say is "yum!" When the weather is a dry 86 degrees you eat outside and savor every moment. My son still goes to bed at 7pm and when he's in the water all day swimming by 6:45 he's begging me to put him to sleep. A mother's dream! That night was one I'll always cherish. All us girls sat on the patio with a glass of wine in hand and easy conversation flowing for hours. I have to say I got to know my beautiful sister in law so much better this trip. She's a truly remarkable woman and I'm totally blessed to have her in my life. Not having my own sister and growing up with guys (predominately) I can be a bit awkward with my girlfriends at times. Brittany is so understanding and real and I cherish her so much. Now that I'm a Mommy I loved that we got to have a sleepover and stay up late talking. Just little things I miss at times.
Mom, Brit and I are all very 'girly' so we woke up early the next day and did what girls do best...SHOP! I don't think Macy's shoe department knew what hit them. :) As I looked around at the sea of shoes around us I thought to myself "It's good to be a woman!" Then it was off to Forever 21 and Victoria Secret. So good! Chase fell asleep in the mall so we decided to pick up in n out burgers for lunch and head back to the pool. A pretty perfect day in my mind! That night we had a lovely cocktail party with our dear friends the Carlson's and some of their cousins. It was a blast! Always such great times with them and lots of laughter. The highlight was Joel finding a workout video for Grannies! It's interesting when women 40-50 years older than you look better. VERY humbling and only in Palm Desert!!!
My other fabulous sister in law Ang was also in the desert and flew home with us today. I have to say I love my sisters. They were so helpful to me with Chase. Plus, they're just great women to be with. All in all a great trip! Just what this mama needed. Although putting my fireplace on at home tonight made me miss the California sun a lot!

I have always had a fascination with photography. Chad & I took a course a couple years ago that gave us an introduction to what our camera can do. We have a Canon 40D and it's amazing! My frustration over the last couple years has been I don't get enough practice and I'm so limited in the technical knowledge. This past weekend I was asked to come and capture a wedding reception. I was thrilled to do it! The bride & groom had hired the great Melody Davis until 7:00. I'm hoping to shadow Melody and learn as much as I can.

I don't think this will ever become a business for me. However, the perfectionist in me wants to do my best. So that means I have to learn and absorb all I can.

The best part about taking pictures that night was it was something for me! An outlet to creatively express myself. I love the social aspect with the guest and catering to the bride & groom. It was amazing! The perfect reminder not to forget the things I love. I just started editing the pictures tonight. Here are some of my favorites so far...

For years I've been trying to go to the Tulip Festival in Washington. They have to be one of the most beautiful flowers. It's a quick hour drive once you're across the border. The tulip festival is outside La Conner which was one of my favorite places to go as a kid. This could very easily become one of our Easter/Spring traditions!

Easter 2010!

Last Easter our wee family was in Palm Springs enjoy the pool, Easter brunch and a lot of R&R. This year Easter felt more like Christmas holidays with better weather. Our weekend was nonstop but I wouldn't change a thing! Every family has their Easter traditions. For us, my Mom made sugar cookies. I had to make sure I carried on this tradition for Chase! However, every morning since I made the cookies Chase wakes up and the first thing he requests is "cookie." I may have started the tradition to early! :)

On Saturday morning, we went to our church for the Easter blast. They had 26,000 Easter eggs for the hunt and 1,500 people came for the fun. It gave me goose bumps when I walked into the sanctuary and saw all those beautiful children and their parents. I was quickly moved beyond words as about 50 of them asked Jesus to be their saviour. Incredible!

After that we headed down to Ed & Aileen's dairy for an ice cream cone. I know, sugar overload for my son but it was a holiday. As soon as sunshine appears around here an alarm for ice cream goes off inside me. Of course Ed & Aileen's soft serve is like the Mercedes Benz of ice creams...we just had to have some!

On Easter Sunday we went to church and then headed over to Mom's for Turkey dinner! Mom always does an amazing job of hosting. The table was so beautiful I had to sneak a picture.
Nana set up the "Great Easter Egg Hunt 2010." This is one of those things that makes me wish my Papa was still around. He would have loved to watch all his grandchildren having so much fun!

Then on Easter Monday we headed down for Easter brunch with the Bennett's. The food was so yummy! It was great to catch up with everyone. While Ang, Stacie & I did some wedding planning, Dad, Mom & Chad took Chase to the park. One of Chase's favorite places to go!

The whole weekend was amazing! All the chocolate & bunnies is fun but being with family and celebrating Jesus dying for us is what it's truly about. I'm blessed and thankful!

My very chic friend Vanessa and I had planned to take our boys on a date. However, we both got tickets at different times. Mommy brain! So Chase & I headed downtown together on Friday morning to take in the fun. As soon as I entered the theater I knew this was the "downtown activity" for families with young kids. The place was packed and they do a show every 1 1/2!!! The show was very cute. Lots of exciting music and dancing for the kids. Chase got very excited when the tuba player came out. I'm guessing that's because he loves Larry the cucumber from veggie tales. Larry plays the tuba in the opening song. That or the low base sound of the tuba and my sons low voice connected in a way this Momma doesn't understand. :)

I would highly recommend you take your kids to this! The show is an hour and it's perfect for all ages.

Spring is here and life is moving so fast these days! Our calendar is full of celebrations, showers & parties. It's such an exciting season. Yesterday was a very full day. I woke Chase up early to be at the fabric store when it opened. I'm taking a sewing class and I forgot to pick up material for the yoga pants we were supposed to start that night. Eek. Then it was off to Makena's 2nd birthday party! Chase LOVES Makena and was excited that Landon Pue and him got to be with SO many beautiful girls. :) The party was so fun and my darling boy fell fast asleep as soon as we left. I got home cleaned my house and set the table for dinner. My side of the family including my Dad and Uncle from Kelowna all came over. I just love my Uncle Randy! He is the most giving man. Trent & I feel so blessed having him in our lives. He does a lot for us!!! Unfortunately, I had to dine and dash off to my sewing lesson. I didn't get to chat as much as I would have liked to. However, we'll be up at his place most of the summer. Can't wait!

This morning I had to go into Fort Langley to pick up a few things. So I thought I'd take Chase down to see the "bwerds" as he calls it. He LOVES birds and they love cheerios! So whenever Chase is around so are they. Here are a couple of my favorite pics...
